A tradition of affordable excellence for smaller shops

In 1985, Peter Kleinschmidt, President of Stiles Machinery Inc., envisioned a special sales division focused on supplying equipment for small-to medium-sized woodworking shops. The basic tool needed for the smaller shop was a sliding table saw. Joining forces with W. Altendorf Maschinenbau in Germany, manufacturer of the leading sliding table saw sold in Europe, Altendorf America (now Stiles Shop Solutions) was launched into the U.S. market.

It was immediately recognized that smaller shops had a need for other entry-level equipment to promote growth and efficiency. Altendorf America began to distribute Brandt edgebanders, a Homag Gruppe product also from Germany. The tradition of superior Stiles support and service was carried through the Altendorf America product lines.

During the early 1990's, Altendorf America anticipated the need for smaller shops to employ more CNC equipment to streamline their businesses and compete in a thriving industry. With the costs of technology dropping, it was reasonable to add "high-tech" features to smaller equipment at an affordable level. Beam saws for stack cutting were introduced, then CNC machining centers, widebelt sanders, and today, complete routing systems. Support and service has grown, as has training and education courses, financing options, software possibilities, and much more.

In 2007, it was recognized that the division had reached a level of growth where a new designation would more completely reflect the array of equipment and services offered.  Stiles Shop Solutions debuted at the AWFS Fair in Las Vegas.  Although the premise of outstanding quality did not change, it is hoped that the new name will help smaller businesses recognize that this division of Stiles Machinery inc. is focused to fulfill the needs and challenges of entrepreneurs.
